Thank you to everyone who took part last year. We look forward to seeing you again this year. Mark the date in your calendar now!

Thank you to all walkers and runners in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns for supporting the 2014 Queensland Legal. Your efforts raised over $50,000 to support free legal help for those who need it most.

Colleagues from across the legal profession, including leaders from government and the judiciary, and supporters from national and local law firms, community legal centres, corporate and government legal units, the profession's peak bodies and university law schools walked on 13 May 2014 to support free legal services in Queensland.

The Queensland Legal Walk is QPILCH's main fundraising event, and is a celebration of the joint effort of the legal profession in advancing access to justice for the most marginalised and disadvantaged members of our society.

FAQs about getting involved

Where is the Walk?

The Walk this year is taking place in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns.

Other regional centres are encouraged to also consider organising their own walks in conjunction with their District Law Association. If you are in a regional centre and would like to start a walk, please contact us. We would be very pleased to hear from you.

In Brisbane, the walk will start at 7am in the forecourt of the Queen Elizabeth II Courts Complex on George St, and follow a 4.5km route for walkers and a 6.2km route for runners, finishing back in the forecourt of the Courts Complex.

For details of walks in regional areas, please contact us on (07) 3846 6317 and we will put you in touch with one of our local organisers.

Early bird registration until 2 May 2014: $20 (Adult), $10 (Concession)

You can register offline using the form linked below.

How do I donate to the cause?

Click on SUPPORT A WALKER. You'll see a list of all teams and individuals who have set up donation pages to help raise funds to support QPILCH's ongoing coordination of pro bono legal services in Queensland. Select an individual or team to read more about them, see how much they've raised, and donate to help the individual or team reach their fundraising target.

Where does the money go?

Funds raised support QPILCH's operations, including the QPILCH disbursement fund. This fund exists to support the pro bono efforts of private practice practitioners and also the work of community legal centres. Although lawyers give freely of their time to help people who cannot afford to pay for legal assistance, there are often other costs associated with legal proceedings, including court filing fees, expert reports, and transcript fees. The QPILCH disbursement fund is accessed to cover these costs in needy cases.

How do I set up a donation page?

It's easy and is part of the registration process. If you are forming a team but don't yet know the total number of walkers in your team, you can still create a donation page so you can start raising funds straight away. You'll just need to return later to complete registration (using a special code) once your team numbers are finalised.

Click on REGISTER NOW and you'll be taken through the steps.

You'll be asked for a team name (or individual name), target amount, and a short message about you / your team. This will generate a page for you or your team. Potential donors will then be able to visit your page and see your team name and message.

When you're done, go to SUPPORT A WALKER to see your name in the list.

I'm not paying by credit card. How do I sign up?

Our online payment system accepts Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

If you want to pay by cash, cheque or direct debit please download our offline registration form (linked below) and email it to admin@qpilch.org.au so we can process your entry.

You can still set up a donation page as normal.

Can I collect cash donations?

Yes. Your colleagues can contribute donations by credit card online, but if you'd prefer just to go around the office collecting money, you can use this form to record who has made donations. QPILCH will then issue separate receipts to all donors.

What is the "Message to potential donors"?

You may like to include a message to potential donors about why you're supporting the Queensland Legal Walk and describe how you or your firm works with QPILCH to deliver its vital services. Here is a sample message to get you started:

We are putting our best foot forward during Law Week 2014 and joining colleagues from across the legal profession including leaders from government, the courts and judiciary, national and local law firms, community legal centres, the profession's peak bodies and law students in the 2014 Queensland Legal Walk.

The funds raised will help QPILCH (Queensland Public Interest Law Clearing House Incorporated) continue to coordinate pro bono legal services to disadvantaged Queenslanders in need of help.

Please help us raise funds by donating today - QPILCH needs all the support that we can muster. Thank you in anticipation of your generous support.
