Thank you to everyone who joined us on Tuesday 14 May 2013 for the 6th annual Walk for Justice. We raised a record $40,000. The highest fundraising team was the Carbolic Group Chambers and we congratulate them on an outstanding effort.
The Walk for Justice is QPILCH's main fundraising event, and is a celebration of the joint effort of the legal profession, including Community Legal Centre staff and pro bono private practitioners, in advancing access to justice for the most marginalised and disadvantaged members of our society.
The Walk takes place during Law Week every year. In Queensland they are held in Brisbane and Townsville and they are also held in other major centres throughout Australia and overseas.
The 5km Brisbane Walk starts and finishes at the new Supreme Court building. Led by QPILCH's patron, The Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Chief Justice of Queensland, we walk up to the Goodwill Bridge, across to South Bank, then back across the Kurilpa Bridge to enjoy a light breakfast in the forecourt of the Supreme Court building, the first event to use it.
In Townsville, the walk departs from Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Club, The Strand.
The date for the 2014 Walk for Justice will be announced soon!
Prizes for the top fundraisers
There will be great prizes for the top fundraisers kindly donated by our wonderful sponsors including Qantas and Mitchell Ogilvie Menswear. Thank you to the Queensland Law Society and Bar Association of Queensland for their sponsorship of the breakfast. Thank you also to Queensland University of Technology for their sponsorship.

How do I register?
Click on SIGN UP NOW. You will be given an option to set up a donation page if you wish.
How do I register a large team without registering everyone at once?
Once you register a team of walkers, you can't come back and add additional walkers to it. But, individuals can register in their own name or you can add a second team with a similar name, (eg "QPILCH 2") and add more walkers that way. It doesn't matter if the walkers aren't 'linked' to your team page.
How do I donate to the cause?
Click on DONATE NOW. You'll see a list of all the teams and individuals. Select your team name to read more about them and see how much they've raised, or hit "Sponsor now" to go straight to the donation page.
How do I set up a donation page?
It's easy. If you are forming a team, you don't even have to have your team finalised, but you can still start attracting donations.
Click on SIGN UP NOW and you'll be given the option to set up a sponsorship page.
If you choose to set up a sponsorship page, you'll be asked for a team name (or individual name), target amount, and a short message about you / your team. This will generate a sponsorship page for you or your team. Potential sponsors will then be able to visit your page and see your team name and message.
When you're done, go to DONATE NOW to see your name in the list.
How do I start collecting donations if I don't know how many walkers are in my team?
It's easy. Just click on SIGN UP NOW and set up your donations page. All you need is a team or individual name.
Then you'll have the option to register a team straight away, or come back later with your final numbers. If you choose to return later, you'll be given a special code to identify your team.
How do people donate to the cause?
All they need is this link - DONATE NOW - or you can send them the link to your own donations page.
For an even slicker approach, QPILCH can provide you with a button or banner to put on your website or email signature block. Just get in touch.
You might like to provide some information about why you're walking and what you're raising money for. See "About us" for more information about the work done by QPILCH members and supporters.
Can I walk in a team but collect donations individually?
Yes. Maybe you're a team player who also happens to have a large fanbase of friends and colleagues willing to donate to any cause you champion, or perhaps you and a colleague would like to compete to see who can raise the most.
Simply go to SIGN UP NOW and set up a sponsorship page for yourself. Then choose the option to Return and add attendees at a later time - but you never have to return! Just make sure you're registered as part of your other team.
I'm not paying by credit card. How do I sign up?
Our online payment system accepts Visa, Mastercard, and (from 26 March onwards) American Express.
If you want to pay by cash or cheque, please contact us and we can process your entry over the phone or by email.
You can still set up a sponsorship page as normal.
Can I collect cash donations?
Yes. Your colleagues can contribute donations by credit card online, but if you'd prefer just to go around the office collecting money, you can use this form to record who has made donations. QPILCH will then issue separate receipts to all donors.
What is the "Message to potential donors"?
You may like to include a message to potential donors about why you're supporting the Walk for Justice and describe how you or your firm works with QPILCH to deliver its vital services. Here is a sample message to get you started:
We are putting our best foot forward during Law Week 2013 and joining colleagues from across the legal profession including leaders from government, the courts and judiciary, law faculties, national and local law firms, the profession's peak bodies and law students in the 2013 Walk for Justice.
The funds raised will help QPILCH (Queensland Public Interest Law Clearing House Incorporated) continue to provide pro bono legal services to disadvantaged Queenslanders in urgent need of help.
Please help us raise funds by donating today - QPILCH needs all the support that we can muster. Thank you in anticipation of your generous support.
